How quickly we forget.
Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at 6:44AM It's a social issue. In this disposable, Walmart 2 for $1.99 era, we throw things away quickly and without question. Because everything's so bad, and we so seldom see things that are amazing, good is great, and great is incredible.
Lest we forget, when we throw around words like Classic, Icon, Legend, and GREATEST, the achievements of those who paved the way and ACTUALLY broke down barriers; barriers that we take for granted, because they didn't lie before us, the work that our forefathers - upon who's shoulders we STAND, and simply say THANK YOU.
We do it in music. We do it when speaking of cars; of leaders. And, as Lebron prepares to win his 1st - HIS FIRST RING, many have annointed him as the GREATEST PLAYER TO EVER PLAY BASKETBALL.
How quickly we forget. You are the greatest when you REVOLUTIONIZE something. When you add something to something which previously existed. When you BREAK something and change it... And leave a LEGACY behind that can be traced to your greatness.
Salute. Michael Jackson. James Brown. The classic Corvette & Mustang. Oprah Winfrey. And Michael Jordan. In the immortal words of yet another - Jay-z (yes... this applies to him too and this lyric explains it for ALL of the ones stated)...
Seven straight summers, critics might not admit itBut nobody in rap did it, quite like I did itIf you did it I done it before, you get I had itGot mad at it and don't want it no moreAnd that goes for everything from flippin that rawFlippin whores, flippin vocal chords, don't get it twistedGet it right, did different, did it better, did it niceDid the impossible then did it twice...
And then again. And again. And again. And again. Get it?
